STAKE CLAIM TO A PRIVATE ISLAND

  • Float in the ocean steps from your suite
  • Order drinks and snacks from waiters in kayaks

Of the many Conrad Koh Samui perks—beachfront yoga, gratis snorkeling trips—time spent on your own private island is one of the most exclusive (and unique). Wade out into the clear Gulf of Thailand waters towards one of the raft-like floating isles fashioned from wood planks. Here, sink into a plush lounge chair beneath the shade of a faux palm tree and watch the waves roll in. Fancy a round of mojitos before noon? Go right ahead—you’re on island time. The beach butler will paddle out in a kayak to deliver snacks and drinks (the cool coconut milk served in a just-cracked coconut is as refreshing as it sounds). Call the Guest Relations team to reserve your island in advance and they’ll set you up for your escape. It’s desertion made easy.

VENTURE OUT FOR A FLAT WHITE

  • Get your caffeine fix with the locals
  • Pick up a bag of fair trade coffee beans

Serious about your caffeine fix? Then make the 10-minute drive to Boy’s Organic Coffee which has locals buzzing over their espresso drinks and strong drip coffee. This tiny café, steps from the beach in the charming Thong Krut fishing village, serves up the best Aussie-beloved flat white—made with slowly poured micro foam for a velvety texture—on Koh Samui. Thai owner and head barista,Boy, sources his shop’s organic beans from an independent, fair trade Hill Tribe farmer in Chiang Mai, the country’s coffee hub. Boy brews several types of roasts and blends, but for a flat white he uses the single-origin peaberry, made from an exclusive plant that grows a full coffee bean, rather than a half, on the tip of the branch. On your way out, grab a bag of ground coffee or whole beans to bring home.
Direct the taxi driver to Thong Krut fishing village, a 10-minute drive from the resort. Look for the small, open-air coffee shop facing the beach.

SATISFY YOUR SWEET TOOTH

  • Dig into delicious, house-made desserts—first
  • Lunch on healthy, seasonal Thai-fusion dishes

Whatever your dietary deal might be—vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, omnivore—the inviting Sweet Sisters Cafe has you covered. But, what keeps the locals coming back for more are owner Khun Noiy’s house-made desserts. Dig a fork into a thick slice of carrot cake, raw chocolate pie, and their specialty banoffee pie (a banana, toffee, and cream confection). If you insist on dessert only after a square meal, the pumpkin and basil curry, quinoa avocado salad, stir-fried chicken with cashews, or any of the seasonally inspired dishes are suitable opening acts. Noiy also has house-made flavored syrups (nab a jar of sweet coconut flower syrup), bags of organic nuts (perfect for snacking as you see the sites), granola, and Thai chocolate.
Hire a taxi for the 15-minute drive to Sweet Sisters Cafe for a quick lunch or sweet treat.
